Surface Wave Energy : Obtained by tapping the kinetic energy of rise and fall of tides.

Advantages

• Its major advantage is that it an inexhaustible, or a never-ending, source of energy.
• It is comparatively more reliable than solar or wind energy because they depend on random changes in the weather's pattern, but surface wave energy is based on the rise and fall of tides is more dependable and uniform.
• It is a clean source of energy, there is no emission of greenhouse gases.
• It has a greater efficiency as compared to solar and wind energy.
• The life of a surface wave energy plant is quite long.
• There low maintenance costs.

Disadvantages

• The initial investment required to set up an electricty generating plant is high.
• There are location constraints as there are only a  few ideal locations to set up a plant.
• As tides happen only a few times a day, actual tapping of energy happens for a limited period of time in a day.
• It adversely affects marine life and causes disruptions in their life cycles.
